I really have strayed into the two channel world more than I thought I ever would. Beings I run a DJ business in the Seattle and Tacoma area I really get my fill of music. But there are two ways to listen to music. Iether through commercial speakers like Yamaha, powered by commercial amps QSC or Crest, or through high end audio components and speakers designed for in room critical listening.
More and more people have been finding me via my Seattle home theater website and wanting to come by for two channel demos than for movie mayhem. So I had to make some chnges to my demo setup. My Oppo DVD player just wasnt cutting it for two channel and I also needed to upgrade my interconnect cables.
The first thing recommended to me by more than one person was to first get a good cd player. The DACs in my Emotiva DMC-1 were good but I needed a steady transport. I ended up getting the Onix CD-3 cd player. Not a cheap player at $999 but worth every penny of it. Both in sound and build quality. This is one physically heavey unit. Most people are shocked when they go to grab the remote shaking it up and down in disbeliefe of its weight. I swear the remote weighs as much as some inexpensive dvd players, that things a brick!
“Featuring a Phillips CDM (VAM)-1202 pick up mechanism controlled by a Phillips CD-7 MKII servo system, CS8420 upsampling chip, Nichicon Capacitors, Burr Brown PCM1738E DAC’s and tri-point anti-vibration feet at all corners, the Onix CD-3 delivers unparalled high-resolution performance from your existing CD collection. Analog output options include high quality RCA coaxial and balanced XLR, alongside a gold-plated digital coaxial RCA output.
Featuring a beautiful piano black lacquer face, electro-luminescent blue display, and weighing in at an impressive 21 lbs., the CD-3 also exhibits a build quality and aesthetic appeal second to none.
Thanks to the CS8420 upsampling chip, the CD-3 will upsample all of your existing CDs from 44.1KHz to 96KHz. It’s even remote switchable so you can do instant comparisons.

I also changed up from my current Monster interconnects to a pair of Cardas cables. I am running analog out instead of digital to the preamp thus using the DACs within the CD-3.
The sound improvemnet was noticable immediatley. Imaging, soundstage, detail, and clarity were all improved. This upgrade brought more life to an already great sounding system. This is one great player that I would readily recomend to anyone deep into two channel sampeling.
