RX-V3800 Differences

RX-V3800 Differences
The RX-V1800 is a fantastic receiver but there are a few key differences that make the RX-V3800 really stand out. A Graphic User Interface makes controlling the 3800 a breeze with a color pictoral display instead of just text on a black background. You can hook up the RX-V3800 to a broadband internet connection for instant access to internet radio, share your PC music folders to access music content from up to four connected computers on your home theater system, and plug a flash drive into the front USB port for your own portable DJ. With an upgraded amplifier, the RX-V3800 will make any speakers sing. Even the Digital Sound Field (DSP) processing has been improved. Similar to the surround processing of the new flagship receiver, hook up a pair of presence speakers to reproduce the width and height of real venues around the world like the Roxy Theater and a concert hall in Vienna.

There Is A Subthing Under The Bed

Some of you have already noticed Yamaha’s newly designed low profile subwoofer, the YST-FSW050. This subwoofer is so much more than just a new shape. It uses several of Yamaha’s latest technologies to offer a beautiful, low profile subwoofer with fantastic performance to boot. It employs the new Active YST II technology - a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. Advanced YST II helps to ensure the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance. It also uses a linear port that helps minimize huffing and other extraneous noise. This is a down firing active subwoofer which helps evenly distribute bass throughout the room while remaining powerful. The subwoofer is also rack mountable and complements any Yamaha Sound Projector or Micro System. Even though this subwoofer is short enough to slide conveniently under a chair or a bed, the question is since it is so pretty, would you even want to?

Triple 18″ Sub Project

A friend of mine recently called me up and told me about the new Maelstrom-X 18″ sub driver from DIYcable and thought it would be a great driver to start another do it yourself project. About a month later, Darren my partner, had come this far on the project and thought I would post some shots of it unfinished. These shots were taken prior to internal bracing and we are still waiting on the passives to complete our triple 18″ sub project.

Still undecided on the finish as well but here are a few pictures.

Powered with a QSC RMX 2450on a separate 20 amp circuit (the 15 amp circuit struggled under the load).

Great Success With KEF

Great Success With KEF

We have had such a popular demand for KEF that we decided to keep stock on hand. We usually turn over product fairly regularly trying different things out, combinations of components and speakers. But with a regular out go of KEF the turn around with in room auditions will be slower.

In our opinion KEF is one of the better mid priced made speakers out there. The reference line is quite spendy. I was lucky enough  to hear the KEF Reference 204/2c in my media room for a short period of time before it was off to the install, I was beyond impressed and thought they are worth the hefty price tag.

Below are some shots of the KEF reference 204/2c center channel. Its the biggest center channel to date in my room. It is also not mine:) I cant afford one or it would not have left the house. We had to use two different stands to hold the giant up, at over 70 lbs its no light weight.

How Does HDMI Video Differ?

How does HDMI video differ?
Just because a receiver has the capability to connect HDMI sources does not mean that each receiver is the same. In fact, very few are similar at all. There are currently five separate ways that receivers handle HDMI signals and we will list them in degrees of technological advancement starting from the bottom up:

1. HDMI video switching: Allows for top notch video passthrough. Only HDMI video inputs are output via the HDMI out. Audio has to be run separately using another connection like an optical or digital coaxial cable.

2. HDMI A/V switching: What comes in, must go out. Only HDMI inputs are output via the HDMI out. You must use multiple connections to the TV if you are using any other video connections like composite or component video but both audio and video will go over one cable.

3. HDMI upconversion: Makes life a little easier. All video connections, like composite video and component video are upconverted to HDMI but the resolution of the video signal does not improve.

4. HDMI upconversion with a de-interlacer: Progressive scan and ease of use. Everything is upconverted to HDMI like before but also put in progressive scan so your resolution is improved to 480p on all non-High Definition sources.

5. HDMI upconversion and upscaling: Nothing but the best. Every video source is upconverted to HDMI and non-High Definition sources are upscaled to make every video source either 720p/1080i or 1080p depending upon the receiver.
